ROGERS - On Thursday, Hardy W.
"Casey"Croxton Jr. announced his candidacy for
the judgeship of the Benton County District
Court, Rogers Division.
Fairness and efficiency are two goals he will
pursue if elected, Croxton said in the release.
"I look forward to serving the people of Benton
County as a district court judge and the
challenges that will be faced in the county's
busiest district court. Efficient handling of
cases is important as the number of cases grows,
but this efficiency cannot sacrifice fairness
for those who have cases in this court. While
the district court does not handle the most
serious criminal and civil matters, this is the
court level more people come into contact with,
and all participants should be treated with
fairness and respect. To them, their matter
before the court is important, and I intend to
make it important to me. … I pledge to hear and
decide each case I hear with the utmost
fairness, and I pledge to treat each and every
person who appears before me with care and
respect," Croxton said in the release.
He is concerned over the $ 6 million in
outstanding fines due to the city of Rogers,
Croxton said.
He believes his experience in administering
large organizations, acquired during his tenure
as vice president and general counsel for St.
Mary's Hospital in Rogers, will go far toward
helping him devise a plan to collect as much of
the money as possible, he said in the release.
"The more of this money we collect, the less
likely it is that Rogers will experience a
budget shortfall, the candidate said. "This
should help prevent any millage increase by the
city."
His involvement with antidrug programs and his
volunteer participation in other programs to
benefit the community, as well as his experience
as a sitting judge, have given him a unique
perspective into the problems he will face in
the Rogers District Court during the upcoming
years, Croxton said in the release. He's
confident this experience will translate into an
ability to handle these problems while ensuring
that fundamental rights and fairness are
extended to everyone who appears before him as
district court judge, he said.
A lifelong Rogers resident, Croxton attended the
Rogers public schools and Westminster College
and graduated from the University of Arkansas
School of Law, the candidate said.
A licensed attorney in Benton County for more
than 25 years and the Pea Ridge City Court judge
since 2002, Croxton has served as a special
district court judge in the Rogers, Bentonville
and Siloam Springs divisions.
He is now serving his second term as a law
section chairman of the Arkansas Bar
Association, where he is a tenured member of the
House of Delegates.
Croxton is a sustaining member of the National
Organization of Social Security Claimants
Representatives, a past president of the Rogers
Optimist Club and a member of the Rogers Noon
Rotary Club.
Croxton is a member of the Rogers-Lowell Area
Chamber of Commerce and a board member of Drug
Free Rogers-Lowell, which is sponsored by the
Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce.
He has worked as an attorney from the district
court level through the state and federal
appellate court level, and volunteered his time
as a board member for the Beaver Water District,
the Rogers United Way and other social agencies,
Croxton said in the press release.
This and other nonpartisan judicial elections
will be held in the first half of 2008, well
before partisan elections next fall, Croxton
said in a phone interview Thursday. "(The
judicial elections ) are in May, at the same
time as the primary," he said.
Throughout the state, nonpartisan judicial
elections will be on May 20, 2008, the same day
as partisan primary elections. If the
nonpartisan elections require any runoffs, those
will be held on Nov. 4, the same day as the
general election, a spokesman for the Arkansas
secretary of state said Thursday. |
